Katie at the Parc de Versailles

This page is all about our lovely little daughter, Katie, who was born at 27 weeks and 3 days - way too early. She weighed 940 gm (barely 2 lbs) and was 35 cm tall.

On Monday evening, October 13, 1997, my wife Anne complained about an ache in her lower back. Later that evening, she started to get contractions. This is what happened next:

10:30 pm I called the midwife, who told me that everything was alright.
12:50 am The contractions were coming quickly and lasting long. I called the midwife again.
1:00 am The midwife arrived.
1:06 am Katie arrived
1:08 am The paramedics arrived and took Katie to the local hospital
2:30 am Katie was transferred to the NICU in Utrecht.

The first few days, we went through the gammut of emotions, as one can imagine. The following is a daily diary of how she has progressed and is progressing.

I have included a glossary of the terms and abbreviations I have used. Click on the term or abbreviation to get a definition, or click on the Glossary button above to see the complete list.

Using Katie's Kalendar

The original page was getting far too big, 40KB of text. I have now broken the diary out into weeks. You can go to any date in the diary using Katie's Kalendar. Originally, I had the Kalendar launch automatically when this page loaded. This had one disadvantage, in that it launched every time you came to the page - even if you had just gone to the Glossary to look up something. So I don't do that anymore.

You can launch the Kalendar in one of two ways - either click on the Kalendar button or click on Piglet . Select any date you want. The entry then appears in the original browser window. You must have JavaScript enabled.
